this is peak Penn, and an overall great movie. Mary Stuart Masterson is also great in this.

sidenote: the soundtrack is entirely instrumental, remixed versions of Penn's then-wife Madonna's Live To Tell. one of her great deep cuts. when the credits roll, you hear the album version.
