They and everyone else has that in droves (including on the Carl Gustav and RPG7).
Tanks generally (all Russian tanks do this) also have smoke generators where they mix diesel in the exhaust to create a smoke screen.

I remember seeing this used in practice in Ugledar among some other places.

The main problem is that smoke doesn't block thermals well unless it has some additive like metal flakes (IIRC) or other blocking aerosol.
But it does protect from at least 90% of the drones out there, same with fog.

It's funny how quickly Ukrainian narratives get smashed.
