As late as bf1 and V classes were very important. In bf1 each class had a clearly defined optimal range which you had to respect (unless the personal skill difference was so high that you could just yolo through the firefight), in bf5 this was the case as well (though to a lesser degree but still) and you could focus priority targets to prevent medics getting into the cap point or supports getting prone behind some rock from where they'll be very difficult to dislodge. You knew who can bring what, what their optimal range is, what kind of grenade will be thrown at you, will that one guy diving into the trench reanimate like fifteen people or can you let him go and focus on something more important etc
None of that matters anymore, anyone can do anything and you cannot tell them apart either way
