Why did Chel choose this guy instead of the much better person that is Miguel?

El Dorado would've been better if this guy had a single hint of depth or nuance. He's just a one dimensional cartoon character for the entire movie.

Tulio is the biggest problem of the movie. He's just an extremely two-dimensional cartoon protagonist with a personality that becomes tedious long before the movie is over.

He is the biggest flaw of the movie. Too much of a one-dimensional cartoon character.

I can sorta see why Road to El Dorado did poorly at the box office. This guy needed a better personality and a bit of backstory/layers. He just comes across as a one-dimensional cartoon character.
