It doesn't, PS3 and PS5 did/have not cracked 100m, which is not surprising given how expensive they both are/were

If this were true the PS3 would have won the 7th gen with the most sales but it didn't; the Wii sold the most (>100m to PS3's 87.5m), being much weaker without a BluRay player.
Also the PS5 acquisition rate has been atrocious this gen, only earlier this year did the PS5 surpass PS4, after five years on the market, picrel.
Investing purely in technology and graphics is just diminishing returns and is worthless without good games and game design; this is why Sony typically sells consoles at losses too.
