I think Zik is supposed to balance out Zavok's shortsighted wrath somewhat, they're both limited by only caring about destruction but Zik is more focused on the long-term while Zavok is better at cleverness in the moment.
It's just a shame the actual video game part of this video game franchise hasn't done them justice yet.
