I mean I'm doing the same to be honest >>281629627 but I'm mainly commenting based on my experience of Gainax & Trigger fans trying very hard to find "subversive" meaning or serious media commentary in all these shows. I think Panty & Stocking has THEMES and you absolutely can talk about them but they're not very nerdy themes. The women's prison episode wasn't really a critique on any film genre, or a large-scale commentary on societal systems - it was simply saying "douchy guys WANT you to fight, and the winning move is to not play their game". And it's not a hugely gender-specific message as I said >>281626150 because men are guilty of the same shit. Both were "bros before hoes" episodes for different genders.
The fact that Independence Dick was a reversal of traditional gender norms, with Garterbelt & Brief getting sick of,playing the housekeeper role, only further enforces that. These aren't specifically gendered flaws & feelings, they're fundamentally human.
