My hot take is that I actually preferred the first film for being more focused and tonally consistent, it's a fun lighthearted adventure with creative fights and setpieces.

The second film is simultaneously trying to be that and a dramatically epic plot with DBZ fights and LOTR battles. It's like how Revenge of the Sith is the only SW prequel movie where we actually see Anakin/Obi-Wan being bros and going on a fun adventures while also being a film where Anakin slaughters a kid and chokes his wife.

I also think some of the visual style got lost in the sauce. Some of the designs go for a more photorealistic/high fidelity look which clashes when they're standing right next to the stylized cartoony characters.
