Learning mechanical skills is the easiest way to make sure you never go hungry. Skilled mechanical labor is ALWAYS needed. Also forget the hourly wage bullshit, high competency will allow you to start your own business and charge the market rate for what your skills are ACTUALLY worth (in a union you are only worth what the seniority scale says you are worth).
My biggest regret was getting a degree in Computer Networking and starting out in entry level corporate IT. If I could do it all again I would have just gotten a job at an auto mechanic, learned the ropes, moved on to a German car dealership until I had saved up enough cash to just flip German cars with blown engines.
I wasted 20yrs of grinding corporate BS to afford a new BMW every 3-4yrs, only to be replaced by shit jeets and women that are willing to do the same work half as good for 1/4 of the pay. Literally just rebuilding BMW/Mercedes-Benz/Audi/Porsche engines all day and flipping cars would have been the smart choice.
I was stupid and chased a career I thought would pay six figures (and it did for quite a few years) and be future proof instead of just doing what I enjoyed. Dont make the same mistake I did.
