Gunblades were traditional Bozjan weaponry used since their war against the Allagan Empire, right? I don't think using a gunblade during Garlean-occupied Bozja would be such a striking contradiction if you write yourself as a former conscript, which I think is mentioned quite frequently during the Foray and job quests.
