strong meta leads to boring meta.
the last time i truely enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering was back during the Return to Ravnica into early Kahns of Tarkir, particularly Theros block.
it was weak enough that the random nature of drawing cards from a shuffled deck made some of the most random bullshit viable which led to fun homebrew deckbuilding.
pic related was one of my last decks i made before i moved and couldn't play IRL magic easily, i was just toying around with making a clone deck where regardless of the cards i drew i could always find synergy with something and it managed about a 60% winrate in my LGS at the time, of course it would be blown apart by anything modern these days but damn was it fun to play.
it did:
clones and clones that could clone into random shit like enchantments
turning artifacts into 5/5 creatures like an indestructible 5/5 land or a 5/5 Ornithopter by turn 2.
mild mana ramp with engineer to allow tapping to pay for artifacts like the scuddling doom engine, a larger creature that deals damage when it dies
outright theft via abusing trigger order to clone something that is exiled on my end step and trading it to my opponent for their permanents
usually the win condition if it wasn't a rush with 5/5 in the air or something was getting the scuddilng doom engine out onto the field and using a bunch of temporary clones via Twinflame and full sending them, if they die they still do damage and if they make it through combat i blow them up with shrapnel blast.
