I am the same. I'm not a purist either, the more Sonic, the better. I love seeing these characters in new scenarios and settings. It's why I love fan comics and fan animations, since it's pretty much just that.
What's annoying is when autists come along and act like we need to worship the games as if this is some sort of religion and that the games are obligated to be liked because they're "orthodox". It's so weird to me.
Also, let's me real, if Archie was such shit, SEGA wouldn't have hired Ian and Evan for IDW or the games now. It's obvious they did something right with Preboot if they're still working with SEGA 13 years later.
Yeah, my main problem with the games after 2009 is their reluctance or inability to be interconnected like the Archie plots were. The games from Sonic 1 to SATBK were loosely connected to each other, unlike everything post-SATBK. although recently it seems they're trying to go back to that. However, Archie, even before Ian came along, still had some good stories, though yeah, Ian's clean up project of the preboot lore really makes alot of the Bollers/Penders content better in hindsight imo
