Instead, Kadokawa tried to replace it with pre approved, sanitised and hand picked "anitubers" and (through their Bookwalker subsidiary) hire two of the biggest names in the western scene

Funnily enough, there was also a second rabbit hole of "cute girls doing cute and funny things" clips

and a good part of the early audience in the 2020 boom came through the vacuum the purge of anime clips from Youtube as Hololive was pretty much "anime girls turned real".
