Some theorize the Yami Yami's "darkness" works similarly to a black hole, playing on the idea that "nothing can escape a black hole's pull," so I wouldn't dismiss that idea. My idea is the Yami Yami's "darkness" is related to the "abyss" of the ocean and/or Davy Jone's Locker.
