Well, maybe at some point Jax might want to keep living like some Evangelion-type shit where Shinji wants to keep living and accepts reality despite the pain that is life itself, or Jax will simply give up with something like "I'm tired, Pomni," and become abstracted, and Pomni will be devastated.
