I've had chronic low self-esteem since I was a kid, but to be honest I should be more confident than I am since the times when I've been weird in public I got away with it.

There was this one time I was taking public transit and saw someone I thought I knew, so I wanted to say hi. When she didn't respond I said hi louder thinking she didn't hear me. Then, since I was kind of puppy excited to say hi, I grabbed her by the shoulders and started shaking her. When she turned her head I realized that I was talking to someone completely different. She was wearing a mask so I couldn't really see the difference.
Anyway, I burst out laughing and apologized for being weird. No one ever confronted me about it or tried to white knight, so it appears that you can just approach random women even if you're creepy and interact with them.
