with 8gb vram you can load an sdxl model no? they are 6.5gb. I started with a 2080 and I remember working with sdxl with that gpu. but seriously, if you really want to learn the ropes, just go comfy. a1111 introduces terms like "high res fix" and voila, there is your black box. you have no idea what is happening under the hood.
