Any time you see a freakishly tall / gigantic person who doesn't play some pro sport it's almost always because they're so unathletic that despite their size they're of no use at higher levels of competition, or they have some sort of injury issue or health problem. Or, in rare cases like Barron Trump, they just didn't need to really contemplate athletics as a career to begin with.

Either way, it's kind of a stupid question to ask because you can fill in the blanks for yourself. I mean, what did you think, that the dude just never heard of basketball, or had a chance at millions but turned it down to work at a grocery store? Obviously something precluded his paying sports and whether it was skill or injury it's probably not something he wants to discuss with every random stranger.
>actually he was super nice and willing to talk about it
Yeah because unlike you, he's not rude. But I guarantee he was thinking "fuck, I have to have this conversation again?"

I knew a guy who was like 6'10 or so and he just worked in agriculture.. He was skinnyfat, moved slowly and had chronic back and joint problems pretty much from like age 15. He tried to play basketball in high school and was more or less useless.

The automatic entry into the NBA thing is kind of a myth. If you're that tall and have even a faint whiff of athleticism, yeah. But a ton of guys that tall don't have any athleticism. They just have these unnaturally enlongated bodies that don't function properly because they've exceeded their specifications. I'd rather be 6'4 than 6'11

"He was playing great until he got hurt" is going to be the summary of Chet's whole career. Dude got hurt five seconds into his career, missed his entire rookie season, then came back and broke his hip like some 90 year old with osteoporosis just doing routine shit. Guys who get hurt doing routine shit when they're young and don't even have a ton of miles on them rarely become reliable as they get older and play more games.

They will most likely bitterly regret this contract in a year or two. But hey, at least he actually won something before becoming an expensive paperweight like Embiid
