Zelensky's peace proposals are way too maximalistic for Russia to accept. It's not even just maximalistic, either; he's just acting like a victor when he's a loser with no cards. The best example is that, during the talks, Russia began trying to give the Ukraine the bodies of their deceased soldiers; keep in mind, Zelensky's regime has condemned Russia for burying soldiers without returning their bodies to his government and the UN has voted on at least one occasion to condemn Russia for this practice. Russia, in turn, elected to keep many of their bodies unburied so they could be sent to the Ukrainians during peace talks. Zelensky refused to accept the dead bodies of his soldiers, citing the monetary cost of identity verification of the bodies, burial, and payment of survivor benefits to their families. He demanded living prisoners of war instead, having already broken past POW exchange deals where he promised not to send them back. He has also in the past sent executed POWs after claiming they were alive during negotiations, and admitted they were executed after the negotiations to prevent them from joining the Russian Army. Russia won't exchange POWs as a result. Zelensky has further violated multiple ceasefires this year, has claimed he will continue to violate ceasefires, and now claims he only wants a temporary peace to take advantage of Russian naivety and gain territory which can be used as beachheads to attack Russia further.
