The difference is mongoloid: ETH team can do whatever they want at any time with 51% or more of the supply, regardless of what other people want. Getting 51% of the bitcoin miners to ALL agree to do something maniacal to BTC is near impossible. It would be self sabotage. There are a colossal amount of bitcoin validators as well, so good fucking luck.
