anticatholic polemicists (protestants and dumb niggers) love quoting that verse and ignore the preceding one and the next one. Matthew 23:8 says “As for you, do not be called ‘Rabbi.’ [Teacher] You have but one teacher, and you are all brothers.”
What did you call that adult petson in your 4th grade classroom who was paid by the school and stood at the front of the class to convey information to the students? “Teacher” perhaps.
Matthew 23:10 says “Do not be called ‘Master’; you have but one master, the Messiah.”
What is the title used for most men before their name in formal situations? The one that's far more common than “Dr.” or “Prof.” or “Sen.” or “Gen. ” and is the male equivalent to “Miss”, “Ms.” and “Mrs.” Is it “Mr.” [Mister] perhaps? “Mister” is simply a corruption of “Master”.
Why don't I ever hear Protestants protesting about the use of “teacher” or “Mister” to refer to mere humans? Perhaps because they understand the spirit of those verses? Why is it so hard to apply the same logic to the verse between them?
