The issue is that zoomers these days see wacky cartoons as more of a novelty than a respectable kind of animation. Pizza Tower blew up mostly cause it was a fun game, the artstyle is what caused people to say "wow what a fun throwback to retro 90’s cartoons like Ren & Stimpy and Ed Edd n Eddy", even though those cartoons didn’t even inspire the artstyle, it was SpongeBob and French comics that did. Many zoomers seem to love the "cartoons in live action" idea as well despite the fact that those kinds of projects are directed by non-animators, remember that Mr. Ring a Ding stuff that trended a few months ago? Should also prob mention that they’d rather see something like Coyote vs ACME over a truthful homage like The Day the Earth Blew Up.
I’m a college animation major and I have a more zany cartoony artstyle compared to the others, I love to be complimented but everytime I see one calling my artstyle "retro" just because wacky I kinda die inside.
