An image like this that book would treat as something ridiculous that has to be subverted like all other series tropes or "video game-y" things it actively tries to subvert or critique. i.e. questioning why the chaos emeralds always matter, trying to explain why sonic "just lets eggman get away", or having all the characters acknowledge that nothing that's happening matters because "sonic just always wins" or whatever.
