I don't think it's 3D assets. Zach & Michael did most of the pilot art themselves and just got a team of professional background artists to pretty up their rough concepts. It's a natural stylistic upgrade.

I was hoping for a return of Mike Stoklasa so I checked to see if that was the same background/house like maybe its Desmonds wife answering the door there.
WOW they really changed their background style. I didn't even notice till I compared the two.
