>is Pokrosvk holding
No. Conservative estimates say it's 80% under Russian control
>is it an unimportant city?
No, on several regards:
On the context of the battle of the Pokrovsk-Mirnograd pocked, It's tactically important because taking it would doom all Ukrainian troops to the east of it deeper into the pocket.
On a strategic sense, it has 6 highways coming and going from it, and when the frontline was further away from it, it served as a key Ukrainian supply point towards places like Ugledar to its south, Bakhmut to its southeast and Konstantinovka/Chasov Yar to its east. After the Russians fully take it, it will become a supply point for them not only as they go deeper into Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, but also as they fight for Northern Donetsk and even potentially into Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Lastly, on the political context of the conflict itself, one of the stated Russian goals is to take all of the Donbass region, and Pokrovsk is one of the few large settlements in Donetsk that are left to be taken, the other ones - Konstantinovka, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk - would have their eventual battles over them facilitated by taking it.
