Same reason the people who profess their love of Fontaine also usually hate Natlan. It had nothing to do with the actually plot or lore or anything but with the characterization.

In juxtaposition, Natlan is made for straight men. The difference is that straight men said what they like and/or dislike about Fontaine and like and/or dislike about Natlan honestly(me like sexy girls *seal clap*) while the other side makes up roundabout excuses that are contradicted by previous regions or they have to revise history when new things come up outside of that frame of reference(All of a sudden scrambling over themselves defending designs like Lauma and Escoffier despite being very sexualized like recent designs just because they come from outside of Natlan and one of their reasons for crying about Natlan was how sexy the female characters were)
Their behavior is really obvious if you pay attention.
