EU boss 'outraged' by Russian attack on Kyiv

Ursula von der Leyen says she is "outraged" by Russia's overnight attack on Kyiv, which also hit an EU office.

The EU boss said the strikes show Russia "will stop at nothing to terrorise Ukraine".

"I just spoke with our deputy ambassador and I'm relieved none of our staff was harmed," she said.

"Last night's attack struck in close proximity of the diplomatic mission, the presentation of our union. Two missiles hit in the distance of 50m of the delegation within 20 seconds.

"This is another grim reminder of what is at stake.

"It shows the Kremlin will stop at nothing to terrorise Ukraine, blindly killing civilians, men, women, children and even targeting the European Union."

Von der Leyen said the attack shows why Europe is keeping "maximum pressure" on Russia, including tightening its sanctions regime on Moscow.

"We will come forward with our 19th package of hard-biting sanctions," she added.
