funnily that's an issue age of sigmar has as well
the realms are so vast and vague and undefined that even after 10 fucking years there's nothing anyone really cares about
there's a handful of big landmarks and ebin sooper speshul sites that everyone is fighting for but they're mostly giant magical doohickeys that are meta plot relevant but don't feel particularly relevant to the little dudes you put on the table
fighting over something like the allpoints is an important strategic objective, sure, but it doesn't have a fraction of the dramatic weight of a campaign against somewhere like Kislev or Talabheim
if one side of a conflict in aos needs to win for the sake of the plot most of the factions can basically make up some way to teleport reinforcements onto the field or one of their god level figures can just choose to expend one of their infinite maguffins of plot bullshit to turn the tides in the right direction
when the situation is in dire straits in a fantasy conflict its going to be a forgone conclusion brought about by retarded politicking or simply the constraints of time and logistics and only a combination of great heroism and determination can have a losing side find a way to come out on top, or at least alive
