NTA but the difference between written directions and live directions is your ability to rely on second to second informational updates instead of your own memory. So there’s far less vitality on noticing every little detail around you and your brain doesn’t feel the need to internalize it as much.
Not to say that it’s something that you’re experiencing personally but there’s actually been a major generational loss of navigational skills due to live GPS being so ubiquitous and unobjectionable.
Also just my opinion but you should probably be doing a scouting run before actually running through corners anyway just so you can get a good understanding of the pavement quality on that particular day
