>but isn't it way too much bling for the tank to be cost-effective?
You fell for the propaganda that China doesn't care about its troops soldiers or lives cause they did "meat" waves in the Korean War.
China is now the drone capital of the world. And they arnt stupid. They did have that thinking for the Airforce but after the gulf war happened the old guard way of "people air war" was put to rest and the new generation of air warfare was finally accepted by the PLAAF. Which is then they started making the J-10 and what not. Fast forward, they are still thinking ahead about the future of air warfare and we saw how their thories played out (India vs Pakistan) and how long range missiles + datalinks was correct. (They made their PL-15E's work with Pakistan's Swedish Saab 2000 AEW&C, using datalinks (link 17).
So apply this logic to the ground war, China is putting a shit ton of sensors on their tanks (beacsue they mass produce everything already its way cheaper for them), because its the only way to be survivable now. The battlefield is all about sensors now, and integrating all of it so you have a massive kill chain web that works together. Considering that China is going to be spamming drones (DJI produces like 90% of the worlds drones btw), yeah they are gonna want to have radars on their tanks.
