I think I kind of get it, what actually is "shonen" that sets people off so badly? Action stuff? Adventure elements? People will just endlessly beat around the bush because it's too abstract to quantify in words (especially for ESLs) so you're much more likely to get some kind of ironic meme answer as a way to deflect
