The beginning will suck for kanji, it's kind of like the more you know the easier it is to learn more so don't get discouraged when you suck at recognizing which is which and remembering the readings.

If I were to do it all over again I think I'd do a deck in Anki with official radicals to learn to somewhat separate the kanji without going all in on something like RTK, (and then do kaishi1.5k?) and from there mine vocab from slower paced romance anime for a while using Memento for cards with word on front, flip for sentence+sentence audio+image. Of course the first episodes would take absolutely forever, but that's to be expected in the beginning. I know I'd get basic words about feelings and going shopping and on dates at least which is a good basis before you even start thinking about samurai military supernatural stuff.
Then I'd just watch anime and read VNs all day while mining.

If it would work for me I don't know because I can't unlearn and try again, but I don't want to recommend the way I started (WK) because I think there's far more downsides than upsides and even just doing a bit of RTK (like 500 kanji or so just to get started at telling them apart okay)+Mining seems faster and easier because you can get way more useful words immediately and have an easier time immersing.

I really recommend you use Anki and learn most kanji through vocabulary, it can be customized in a billion ways and is free and doesn't disappear if the site is offline.

tldr download Anki and do kaishi 1.5k or something, it's a good start.
