And on top of that this argument isn't even strong; the hope that you can/will be saved allows beings to push though in challenges which would overwise be unperceivable.

Example:
The Drowning Rats experiment: In Curt Richter’s rat experiment, rats that were placed in a cup of water (where the rats couldn't jump out or rest on the bottom); for the first time gave up and drowned after about 15 minutes. But when other rats were rescued and given a rest before being put back in, they kept swimming for over 60 hours. (one even lasted a whole 81 hours!) An average 240x increase.
