Barring a huge shift in your daily reality, your triggers will still be there from time to time, throughout the day. That spark, being reminded of your vice, will pop up from time to time, since it will be well trained to activate whenever it can, to start to the process that lead to the pleasure of the vice. It doesn't mean you still think it will lead to pleasure, it's just like seeing something that looks like a large amount of money or a gold ring on the ground from the corner of your eye. Your brain gives you a little alarm, like "look at that, there is something you need to give your attention". that sight/thought has been designated as valuable to flag up by the brain by its training, and that won't just go away because you filled a notebook page with your thoughts.
The difference comes after this trigger. With the willpower approach, you will often find you will entertain the trigger, trying not to "cross the line" you drew, but skirt around it to get a small dose of pleasure from the vice. Then you get trapped and end up slipping over the line, it might take a minute, it might take days, but once you take that small step down towards the vice, it is too slippery to walk back up and eventually you have to slide back to the bottom and start again.
