Just some tips for a new macro shooter, depth of field is very short at macro ranges, to get more than just one eye of a figure in focus, you'll have to raise your aperture probably to f8 or f11, which also means you will get much less light, so it'll help to put your camera on a tripod or at least a flat surface and not handhold it so you can do longer exposures. Also helps to get a good source of light.
It still has a minimum focus distance so find out where that is so you can get what you want in focus. It'll probably help to just use manual focus assist to make sure what you want is in focus.
