It's taxation without representation, plain and simple. States aren't represented unless you go through both houses of congress, which, constitutionally, is the only entity that can lay taxes like this. ...and a lot of states, even the red ones, if not especially the red ones, are suffering enormously because some idiot thinks putting tariffs taxes on raw materials and parts is a good idea, not realizing that just makes everything more expensive, and in many cases, impossible to produce. Many of our companies are now paying money hand over fist to ship their own materials to themselves. It's like he wants to abandon Capitalism and go back to the Mercantilism of the 15th century that it rendered extinct for good reason.
A lower court recently ruled that these tariffs are unconstitutional for this reason and more, but sadly we won't see anything binding on the subject until Spring of '26, when the supreme court comes back into session.
...But enough /pol/ for one day.
