Why and when exactly did the "RPG mechanics=depth" mindset come along? My best guess is Witcher 3, since it saw AssCreed and God of War clone its systems to great success with casuals. I hate how having more options to click and more numbers on screen has become a synonym for depth, even if each option is generic and shallow compared to a structured experience
