The problem is, the real world, the thing we base our works of fiction on has things, REAL things, like ethnicities, cultures and races, and those DON'T just spawn in the same place at the same time, so it feels strange to ignore that fact.
Think of it logically:
>humans evolved, they have genetic adaptations suited for the different environments they live in
>people pertaining to that region will have similar genetic traits, which reflects on their looks, things like skin color, facial features, hair, height, etc.
>these people will have their own culture, their own beliefs, their own faith, their own music, their own architecture, their own clothes, weapons, armor, etc.
>humans, specially those in ancient times, were NOT very tolerant against things that they felt was not part of the main group.
I mean sure, in a cosmopolitan city in a large empire, even an ancient one, you might have a few travelers and citizens from various races, and cultures, but it is a bit absurd to think that EVERY corner of the world will have people of EVERY race and culture in EVERY position in society.
You might say 'ah its just fantasy, who cares', and that's fair enough, but it gives off a bit of an artificial feeling to the setting.
