Paper Mario fans kind of have a right to be obnoxious, the games proved that Nintendo is fully capable of writing Mario in a way that's way more charming and entertaining; but they actively choose to avoid this for the sake of keeping the IP generic and safe, can't have too much soul in a corporate brand
