I apologize, Sparky. I don't mean to be upsetting, I just feel very strongly about this and I feel frustrated you fail to see my very valid points about the failures of Amy Rose as a character.
You do have a point that Big hasn't appeared much, and neither has Cream come to think of it. It's disappointing. But I still think the reason that team was formed was because Amy's main goal was to find her obsession, Sonic. Helping Cream and Big was very kind of her, I'll agree there, but she only helped out because it led her to Sonic.
I understand what you mean, that she hopes Sonic will want to be with her. But I don't think that changes what she wants in the end. Her own song says she wants to "settle our lives." That sounds like she wants the adventure to stop, doesn't it? Even if she wants him to choose it, she's still asking him to stop being the wind. To change himself for her. To suite her needs. Her dreams. Her sweet passion.
Cream wants to be a hero like him and have exciting adventures. It seems like Amy wants her adventure to be with him, and for that adventure to be a quite quiet life.
That's why I don't think she makes a good foil at all. Knuckles is the mountain, he has his duty to the master emerald and Angel Island, and that makes Sonic's freedom stand out in contrast. But Amy's goal is to end that freedom. It feels different. It's like she's a person who's enthralled with a hurricane and just wants it to stop spinning so she can keep it in her house. You don't need her to try and achieve the impossible for us to know Sonic won't date anyone. That's achieved through show, don't tell, storytelling. If you show Sonic without a girlfriend. It becomes obvious. But by showing Sonic so aggressively rejecting a woman, you feed into rumors and allegations of him being a homosexual. This is why Sonails is so popular (especially in Japan) because people see his strong bond with Tails contrasted by his rejection of Amy and think he must swing that way.
