She doesn't really need to be brilliant. Politicians these days just need to have the right connections. AOC has a direct connection to Hollywood through her talent representative agency. The older generation politicians like Nancy Pelosi relied on their mafia connections. As time as gone on, organized crime went legit (italian mafia all went into casinos in Vegas, New Jersey, etc and the Jewish mafia all went into political action committees and non profits).

The young generation now relies on forging connections through the non profit sector and through the entertainment industry.
