Interesting. I hope we reject it, but I'm not sure we will. Very often, weapons purchases are based on political concerns like trying to cultivate closer ties than how the weapon would actually fare and we've been trying to build stronger economic ties with the EU, so I worry there's a small chance our government accepts it even if it doesn't make much sense to buy it. Hopefully we're smarter than that.

I agree. About the tank, I feel like it would have a similar problem that an Abrams would here: its too heavy. That makes it more dificult to be used on the countryside, where the infraestructure is worse and the vehicle might struggle to pass through some older bridges, or get stuck on unpaved roads after it rains and stuff like that. At least as far as I know it doesn't burn through as much fuel as quickly as the Abrams. As for the Marder 1A5, we already have our locally built Guarani, and I wholeheartedly believe it's better than the German vehicle, besides being tailor-made to operate inside our country. Ideally, we'd prop up local production of those instead. Fun story, Ukraine wanted our Guarani. They were trying to build it saying they'd use it to transport wounded personnel (???) but our government vetoed a sale. They then went on to seethe about it, claiming we were planning to invade our neighbors (?????). The veto thing was because our government wanted to remain neutral to try being a mediator on a potential peace treaty, but that went nowhere.
