Witness descriptions from decades ago always say the same thing. The orbs look small from a distance but are actually as big as a car when they get close.

Another thing very few said was that when the thing lands its glow disappears and what is left is a car sized egg.

My guess. The glow seems to be an effect of how those ships work.
