The GOAT never played a down of football.

Unironic advice for how to get into coaching. You probably won't get into the NFL, or if you do it'll be as a low-tier assistant, but this is actually how you start your football coaching career.
>if you have a degree, get a teaching certificate
>take both USA Football and NFHS courses, as many as you can manage
>apply for assistant positions at every single school in your hometown, every school you played football at, every single school within commuting distance
>volunteer to work at as many summer camps as possible, meet and mingle with as many coaches as possible
>apply to high school all-america camps
>volunteer for a youth league
>once you land a job, apply to every single college level graduate assistant and entry-level assistant job you can while working that job
>jump ship for the first offer you get
>everything from this point on is absorbing knowledge and networking
>keep volunteering for camps, volunteer for youth leagues, make your face known

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A HEAD COACH AT A HIGH SCHOOL TO LAND A JOB AT A COLLEGE
The beginning of your coaching career will look more like freelancing in a creative field than a stable job. You may end up loving high school football more than you expect. You just need to get hours in.
