The term "pederasty" just means a mentorship/guardianship. It was turned into a dirty word for some reason by modern gay fanfiction writers, and this transforms all historical mentions of apprenticeship, squirehood, informal education, etc. into gay fanfiction by association. Similar to the way people are *shocked, just shocked* to learn shota is the everyday neutral term for a boy, doujinshi just means self-published art, otaku just means hobbyist, etc. There is zero evidence, and lots of historical sources suggest the reverse, that it was severely looked down on and sometimes punished.
