Another parallel is that in almost every chapter Garling has been in, Oda's also included Dragon. The only exception was the Kuma flashback which we didn't know at the time that Dragon was in God Valley. But the recent revelation being that the God Valley incident made Dragon cynical about the WG/Marines and Garling being the instigator of it being in GV is a clear setup.
