"Gnosis", or enlightenment, has many traits and one of them is abstaining from material attachments. Wealth creates attachments and allows the one who carries it to completely immerse themselves in the luxuries of the material world.
The correct way to look at this is to not have too little, because then you will spend your days focusing on gaining more in the name of survival, or too much, because then you will spend your days consuming. Have enough to live, and don't be attached to the material things you have because none of them will buy your way into the kingdom of heaven.
