She has very warped standards. If the subject is Shu, then death is absolutely intolerable. He cannot die. His death would mean the end of everything, not just for her but for the world. For everyone else, however, her valuation of life is messed up. She doesn’t always want others dead, but she certainly doesn’t feel the sanctity of their lives.
Ai used to see her own death as deserved. She genuinely believed, and still does, she was a failed human, and that it would be natural to end as waste. In her most nihilistic states, she considered death not tragedy but purification that removed the ugly presence she has on the world. However she must live. Not because she wants to, not because she thinks she deserves to, but because Shu wanted her to.
To die now would be to betray the only pure act of kindness she has ever received. And Ai cannot betray Shu. Beyond these views, she has little to no thought regarding death or loss.
Knowing spirits and the Idea World exist makes Ai think death doesn’t end suffering, it just changes its stage.
