We basically want India to buy oil from us and make a deal for long term LNG purchases from America so we are using tariffs to negotiate. And "Your current trade is funding a fucking war" is a very convenient moral high ground

LNG needs very specialized equipment on the ports of the receiving country so this is something they need to lock in for many decades
