It isn't. Just open world survival crafting slop. I wanna go on an adventure and collect cool mons, visit different cool characters, and listen to cool music. I don't care about graphics stuff. Neither does many Pokemon fans.
I hate GF has lost the vision and atmosphere for Pokemon. The adventure aspect is dying from games the more they embrace open world.
I wish I could write more about it and discuss with anons, but whenever I discuss a game and write more than 1000 characters my posts get called leftist memes etc. so I'll stop here.

TL;DR
There aren't proper Pokemon alternatives. No other Pokemon like games focus on journey and adventure.
